Walking Football Geraldton Workshop

In Decemeber 2021, the Association of Walking Football Australia held it’s first Walking Football Regional Workshop in partnership with Healthway, promoting the LiveLighter message.

Four respresentative from the the AWFA (Mhairi & Robbie Glover, Tony Bellis and myself Garry Lee) travelled to Geraldton to conduct a Walking Football Workshop at the QEII Seniors Centre. There were 14 participants – 10 women; 4 men [two over 70] – and this included regulars to their Wednesday afternoon games as well as Seniors who were entirely new to football of any variety. Feedback from the QEII Seniors Programming Officer was positive and everyone thought the event was a resounding success.

Walking Football is alive and well in Geraldton and it is hoped that a team will come to Perth over a weekend and play in one of the AWFA Festivals.

I would like to thank Mhairi, Robbie and Tony for their significant input, expertise and enthusiasm in making the event the success it was.

Hopefully there will be more opportunities to develop Walking Footbal in other regional areas of Western Australia.
